Plans for the Palma Sola Botanical Park began forming in 1990 when a group of local citizens decided to save a 10-acre site that had earlier been the Manatee County Nursery. The Palma Sola Botanical Park Foundation was formed in 1993. With no county or state funding, the foundation depends heavily on donations, grants and volunteers.

  • Lovely place to bring a lunch or a book and just enjoy nature. Grounds are well kept, with different sections of plants Dog friendly. There is a play ground for the kids, and a covered picnic area.  more »

  • All of the trees make this place a wonderful, tucked away, hidden oasis. Lots of shade and places to sit and picnic. It would be 5 stars if the playground hasn't disappeared, but I'm sure they're just improving the grounds.
  • This place has two major assets: It's free and it's peaceful. I've seen better botanical gardens. This one is okay. Shelby gardens in Sarasota are much better . . . but also cost something like $20. Free is nice, but I didn't spend more than 20 minutes here. Might be nice for an event.
  • Great family fun. Amazing variety of species from all around the world. Public bathrooms and water fountains and great shady spots to sit and rest. Unfortunately, they removed the kids playground, so don't come expecting that to be there despite the pictures advertising it.
  • Loved it here! So quiet and peaceful! Seen a couple people walking their dogs here, they also had a sign at the front that you could grab doggie waste bags from. There's a few spots where you can just sit in the shade. They have a couple different sections where you can look at fruit trees, tropical trees, even a cactus garden. We went thru at a snails pace and sat and rested a while, but if you walk quickly thru you'd walk through it all in 20 minutes or less. Bonus it's free, but it's a good idea to donate towards upkeep if you can. Pretty sure this beautiful and peaceful area is run on volunteers and donations.
  • Beautiful; amazing place for weddings or if you're planning a large outdoor party.
