The US National Center for Atmospheric Research is a US federally funded research and development center managed by the nonprofit University Corporation for Atmospheric Research and funded by the National Science Foundation . The current director is James Hurrell. NCAR has multiple facilities, including the I. M. Pei-designed Mesa Laboratory headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Studies include meteorology, climate science, atmospheric chemistry, solar-terrestrial interactions, environmental and societal impacts.Tools and technologiesNCAR provides a broad array of tools and technologies to the scientific community for studying Earth’s atmosphere, including, Specialized instruments to measure atmospheric processes Research aircraft High-performance computing and cyberinfrastructure, including supercomputers Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Cooperative field campaigns Atmospheric models of weather, chemical, solar, and climate processes, including cooperatively developed models such as: Community Climate System Model (CCSM) Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model (WACCM) Data sets, data services, and other resources

  • Great place to learn something and a nice time in Boulder without spending any money. They offer a tour at noon, but it's fine to go on your own. The pathway to walk outside has some of the best photo...  more »
  • A quick visit here when visiting friends. It was a very educational and interesting - children and adults alike can learn and they have great hands on exhibits ie you dictate what the wind is doing and where form in order to create snow storms or tornadoes... Great for anyone who has even year inkling of the science geek in them gold likes to learn about weather.
