The Boston Opera House, also known as the Citizens Bank Opera House, is a performing arts and esports venue located at 539 Washington St. in Boston, Massachusetts. It was originally built as the B.F. Keith Memorial Theatre, a movie palace in the Keith-Albee chain. The chain became part of RKO when it was established just before the theater opened on October 29, 1928, and it was also known as the RKO Keith's Theater. After operating for more than 50 years as a movie theater, it was rededicated in 1980 as a home for the Opera Company of Boston, which performed there until the opera company closed down in 1990 due to financial problems. The theater was reopened in 2004 after a major restoration, and it currently serves as the home of the Boston Ballet and also hosts touring Broadway shows. The theater serves as the home arena of the Boston Uprising of the Overwatch League.

  • From the outside, this Opera House is very deceiving. It's tiny facade opens up to a lovely historic theater with an ornate marble lobby, gold ornamentation and lovely ceiling frescoes. I've seen...  more »
  • The opera house is gorgeous! It was a fantastic place to watch a live show. The acoustics were excellent. Management did an excellent job moving people in & out of the bathroom!  more »
  • This is a beautiful theatre! The outside is deceiving as it is very large once inside. The acoustics were amazing. I was in the lower center level but really would think the sound would be great...  more »

  • What a gorgeous theatre. The restoration was just amazing; it feels like we are heading back in time to see some grand performance. Everything from the lobby to the hallways to the theater itself are just stunning. It's a performance itself. There are great sight lines from every seat in the house as far as we could tell. The Ballet was wonderful; the performers are top notch. We will absolutely go back again.
  • Beautiful theatre. We saw Copellia done by the Boston Ballet. It was a wonderful performance and reminded us how much we love going to the Ballet. The staff at the Opera House was all very friendly and helpful. I love that they are trying to create interesting interactive things in the lobby and getting kids excited about the arts. We will definitely be going back whenever we can!
  • This is the most beautiful venue I have ever seen!! Such character and charm. Went to see “A Bronx Tale” and it was amazing!!! The staff that work here are the nicest people and actullay care and talk to you. I cannot wait to go back again!!
  • I love this place. I had season subscriptions to Boston Ballet up until Fall 2018, then I moved. The seats are comfortable and the whole place is clean. Moving through the lobby on the 1st floor before and after shows can be a little tough. But, it is no different than a typical opera house crowd. The staff always accommodated my need for aisle seats due to limited mobility. They also helped me choose seats based on my height. I am short (5' 2.5"). When I sit on the orchestra level, looking up at the stage taller people (5' 5"and up)usually block my view. Also, there is an elevator and both floors are wheelchair accessible, so are the bathrooms. Bathroom attendants keep the bathrooms clean and the potty line moving.
  • I'm pretty sure I've been to all of the theaters in Boston, and the opera house is the nicest. The decorum is worthy of being in an architectural magazine. And though my seats were in the balcony section, it was still reasonably comfortable in comparison to some of the other smaller theaters in the city. The production (School of Rock) was fantastic, and the line to leave moved steadily.
