Create an itinerary including Cap'n Fish's Cruises
Cap'n Fish's Cruises has provided tours of whale-feeding grounds for more than 80 years, making it midcoast Maine's original whale-watching company. Marine biologists and naturalists are on board modern and comfortable ships, providing an informative commentary about the Gulf of Maine and some of its most famous inhabitants. You can spot these magnificent creatures from the upper deck, or relax with a drink and snacks in the temperature-controlled main salon that offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding water. If you plan to spend time on the open-air upper deck, wear multiple layers to help block the chill of the sea wind. By using our Boothbay Harbor day trip planner, you can arrange your visit to Cap'n Fish's Cruises and other attractions in Boothbay Harbor.

  • What a great short cruise. It was windy but so much fun. Didn’t see any seals but saw a bald eagle, porpoise and an osprey. The Bloody Mary was wonderful and the crew was exceptional.

  • The captain/tour guides were super welcoming and knowledgeable. They shared a lot of facts about the area as you sail out and work hard to find a whale. We did see a couple whales, but even if we hadn't I would still consider it a worthwhile experience! It got a bit cold as you sailed on the water and the speed made it quite windy. However we followed the recommendations on the website and had brought sweatshirts and had no loose things that could blow away. Parking was very difficult to find. Plan at least half an hour to look for a spot and bring cash to pay for it.
  • Went on the Harbor cruise on Wednesday and truly loved it, got to see some light houses and seals. Went on the Puffin cruise today and got to see tons of Puffins and even other birds, and Porpoises. Staff was truly amazing for both trips, cruise ships were very clean and beautiful… Thanks to all the staff and crew. Sadly we say bye to Maine tomorrow. Next time up hopefully will due Whale cruise..
  • Best cruise I’ve been on! The crew was amazing and friendly. We did the 4 hour whale and puffin cruise and we all had a really great time. We didn’t see any whales but plenty of sunfish and puffins. The boat ride alone was worth it as it was so relaxing and fun. Highly recommend.
  • Exterior seating is very limited but plenty inside with bad views. Small snack bar with some alcohol beverages was nice. Later in the trip, way over-priced hot dogs and hamburgers were offered. Saw puffins as advertised but no whales. Offered a voucher for a free trip before the end of '23 season, but not particularly appeasing considering I live in Phoenix.
  • Great ride in beautiful weather! We got to see the harbor and explore out a bit further. We did the whale watching tour which was about 3 and a half hours long. We only saw one spout, so we were given passes to come back for free. Even though we didn't get to see a lot of whales, the staff was friendly and kept it a fun ride! We'll definitely take them up on another ride when we're back in the area.
