Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, Blowing Rock

#1 of 8 in Parks in Blowing Rock
The former estate of a wealthy entrepreneur and philanthropist, Moses H. Cone Memorial Park combines lavish living with natural beauty. At the heart of the 1,416 hectare (3,500 acre) estate sits Flat Top Manor, a massive Colonial Revival-style mansion built in 1901. The manor now houses the Parkway Craft Center, which displays handmade crafts by local artists. Due to Moses Cone's interest in conservation, the estate contains large forests of white pine and hemlock hedges, as well as man-made lakes filled with bass and trout. You can explore the grounds on carriage trails which guide you through the estate; they also wind past the family cemetery and near the carriage and apple barn. Put Moses H. • Beautiful home and grounds. The views are amazing. There are a lot of walking trails if you are up for a hike. Hopefully one day this home will be restored to it's former beauty and it will be open to the public for tours.
  • Beautiful place to spend a stress free day with the whole family. Lots of great places to take pictures, have a picnic, or just take a walk. Dogs and horses welcome. Other visitors and locals are usually very welcoming and will greet you or stop for a chat.
  • This place is lovely! The craft shop is quite pricey but fun to explore. Lots of trails to walk and a beautiful view from the manor's porch!
  • This is a special place for me personally. The history and heritage are simply fantastic. The views are breathtaking and clearly created by God Himself. The hikes on the trails are worth the workout the average couch potato might experience. It is not only a "must see", but a "must visit" as well
  • Went on the flat top hike with my girlfriend, best friend, and his girlfriend and thought it was a fun short hike. It was very foggy when we went, so I don't recommend going after it rains, but as we were there the fog started to fade and the beautiful views became much more clear. The old fire tower at the end of the hike is alittle sketchy, so if you're afraid of hikes just consider it a land mark to know you're done.
