We had a blast mining and came out with some awesome finds! The service was great, kind helpful, and knowledgable.
We brought my 7 year old to Doc's Rocks on his 7th birthday. I expected it to be a fun little experience for him, but surprisingly it was a treat for all of us to explore for gemstones. The bucket had... read more »
Once again a wonderful visit, with some very knowledgeable gemologists. We had been rock hunting in a stream in the area, and brought our stones there. We chose 5 of these stones to be cut into facete... read more »
Checked this place out with my youngest kiddos today...ages 2, 8, and 10 and they each had a blast (and so did mom). We got a medium bucket, which I felt was very reasonably-priced and provided more than enough ore for the four of us. They each found several precious stones, including rubies, topaz, sapphires, amethysts, garnet, and lots of quartz. The staff was friendly and knowledgable, and had a great time teaching the kids about their findings. Plan to come back with hubs and the oldest if we are out this way again!
Great family experience. Indoor and outdoor flumes. Very helpful and friendly staff. Located on 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock at Mystery Hill - right on the Middle Fork Greenway makes for easy walking access to Mystery Hill, Appalachian Fossil Museum, Appalachian Heritage Museum, Native American Artifacts Museum, High Gravity Adventures, Tweetsie Railroad, Riverside Log Cabins, and Sterling Park.
This is a fun little shop and easy to find. We didn't do the "mining" but just checked out the rest of the store. They had some nice mineral specimens and a small collection of gems. The jewelry area was fun, with prefab pieces and a good sized stock of beads, so you can design your own. All of them seem to be reasonably priced for what they are. There's a small coffee shop attached that has a stock of porcelain fairies. I'm not sure where they fit in with the rest of the place, but some of them were very nicely done and reasonably priced.
We went to Docs Rocks on July 4th. Everyone was very friendly and had a great demeanor with our kids. The experience was not only FUN but educational too! We came away with a few semiprecious minerals to add to our rock collection. I would strongly recommend this as a must-do stop on your next trip to Boone, NC.
I love Doc and Trina and the whole crew! They are always so nice and helpful! They are so eager to teach you about the stones too, which is so much fun for us! This is our second bucket that we have purchased from them and had them cut the stones. They are so talented in cutting the stones. SO BEAUTIFUL!!
