Garden
The garden features hundreds of species of woody and herbaceous plants from around the world showcased in various features: a multi-acre shade garden, “hot” perennial border, spectrum mixed border, xeriphytic garden, two water features including the Jane Andrews Memorial Stream Garden, Pavilion tent lawn and folly, the Meadow Garden (new in 2008), and the Peggy Lee Hahn Garden Pavilion (special events facility and staff offices, open weekdays 8am - 5pm). The current garden, including new construction, covers six acres. Founded in 1984 by Horticulture faculty Robert Lyons and Robert McDuffie as the Horticulture Gardens, it was renamed the Hahn Horticulture Garden in November 2004 in honor of Peggy L. Hahn, for the generous gift and bequest for expansion from T. Marshall and Peggy Hahn. Many garden components and structures have been designed and built by Hort faculty and students. Many people over the years have contributed to the garden: students, faculty, staff, community volunteers, nursery and greenhouse growers, landscapers, and so many more.

  • Beautiful garden with a seemingly endless number of paths to follow. Tons of shaded areas to explore when it's hot. A great place to take a date or your family!
  • Lovely, planned gardens on the edge of VT's campus. The Center is a nice place for meetings and special events. And there is plenty to see and learn about in the gardens themselves. Pick up a map of the gardens or visit the kiosk near the entry road parking lot on your way in.
  • This place is really pretty in the Spring and Summer. It's a nice place to visit on campus.
  • I visited the gardens several weeks ago and attended an event at the pavilion. The gardens are amazing and a great place to take the family while we're on campus.
  • Quaint, diverse garden in a great location
