  • Was the perfect morning hike. 3 miles round trip with the kids. Worth the view and nice picnic area near parking. Saw lots of people with dogs on the trail.
  • I used to take my sons when they were young along with our Lab, Gus. We climb to the top and have a picnic. Now, I've taken my grandsons. We love it and you will too.
  • Love coming here. You can do trails from a 1/4 mile up to 5 miles. The trails are well-maintained, not a lot of over-growth. Its definitely worth a visit if you are a hiker.
  • Urban outdoors done right. Ruffner Mountain offers about 14 miles of hiking trails at different levels of difficulty (defined as changes in elevation). All hikes can be planned to have an interesting destination for a break, as a turn around point, or to keep kids motivated. The 3 ore crushers are great relics from Birmingham's history when iron ruled and drift mining changed the face of the mountain. The limestone quarry has unique plants and if you look hard enough, you can find fossils embedded in the rock. The overlook above the quarry provides a great view of distant downtown Birmingham and if your eye sight is good enough, you can spot Vulcan on red Mountain. If you are interested in local insects and reptiles you should visit the wetland and enjoy the dance of countless Common Whitetails, Pond Hawks, and Damsel Flies.
  • This is a great place to hike and exercise. They also have a nature center where you can take children and they can learn about the animals and nature of the area. The staff there are doing a really good job. They have summer programs for children. They also have rental spaces available. Great place!
  • The trails were beautiful and the maps were informative. I went on my first hike here and simply loved it -- great views, and tons of natural beauty. I have been hiking here ever since.
  • Well my husband and I pulled down off of 80 something road and got stuck. A man on top of the hill brought boards to help us out. Thank Goodness. But not before he called the Police 1st wondering why we were down there. Ummmm... it's a preserve and we wanted to check it out and got stuck. But, atleast the Officer and The man on top of the hill helped us get our car out.
  • Some of the best running/hiking trails in Birmingham area. The nature persevere and community services here are top notch.
