  • My family loved the trails and the view overlooking Birmingham. It's a great place to get away from modern life and enjoy some time outdoors. Highly recommended.  more »
  • This preserve is a gem not far from the city center or airport. I spent 75 minutes walking in the hilly, well marked trails. I did not find any scenic overlooks, but I only did about 1/4 of the trails...  more »
  • We wanted to be outside on this beautiful day so many folks we spoke with recommended this park. The visitor center has some dedicated employees that were very helpful and got us on a nice trail with ...  more »

  • This place is a hidden gem. It has many different trails and overlooks to explore. It is also pet friendly! I have been here a few times and I think it gets better each time. I love going here to get a quick hike in or relax for the afternoon. It is also free which is a huge addition. The trails are clearly marked and fully cleared so there is no risk of getting lost. My favorite spot here is on a ridge looking over downtown Birmingham. If you go at the right time you can catch the sun setting behind the city.
  • Really enjoyed a brief visit here. Several trails to choose from and as we had a short time frame it was nice to have a short circle trail to get into nature. Also liked the bird and reptile exhibits for a quick visit before we headed out.
  • Off the beaten path and up the winding road a new adventure awaits. Multiple trails in variable distances and difficulty. The have picnic tables, nice clean restrooms and even a informational museum with attached conference room. Great nature reserve it worth the trip out ..
  • Ruffner has come leaps and bounds over the years. They are now an epicenter for community involvement. The place is clean. Staff is friendly. And it's a lovely hiking experience. Make sure you grab a map at the nature center because it's easy to get turned around on some of the trails. The overlook affords great views of the city.
  • Beautiful scenery with everything from rock cliffs and outlooks to wetlands. Lovely place to go hiking or just to visit the nature preserve and learn about the local wildlife.
