Ship Island, Biloxi
Categories: Islands, Nature & Parks
The collective name for two barrier islands off the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Ship Island is home to an expanse of beach and a historic fort. East Ship Island is only accessible by personal watercraft, whereas an excursion boat travels regularly to West Ship Island, home of Fort Massachusetts. Collect shells, swim, or explore the 19th-century fort. Make sure to watch for dolphins on the horizon; they are often spotted here. If you go swimming or paddling, you should be careful of jellyfish and stingrays. Shade is limited here, so come prepared (you can bring umbrellas, lightweight folding chairs, and small coolers) or plan to rent an umbrella and beach chairs on the island. There is food service available on site. Plan to visit Ship Island and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Biloxi attractions using our Biloxi trip itinerary planner.
