  • +JMJ Heaven on Earth?! I think so! I love making Retreats! This Trappist run Retreat House is absolutely SUPERB!! The silence which permeated my soul with serenity, the nature beauty of the surrounding countryside, and the opportunity for quiet prayers and to join the Trappist community for early morning prayers and Holy Mass were soul repairing. Retreatants were required to keep silence which I greatly appreciated. However, at meal times (simple but delicious) the Guest House Master (at that time) would read faith-related excerpts from his selected book. Additionally, the Retreat House has a Chapel where Retreatants could visit for private prayer times. Just glancing back in my memory banks refreshes by entire spiritual being! Praise the Good God for such a Heavenly sanctuary!
  • A beautiful and sacred place to visit and support now and be interred later in their green cemetery.
  • A wonderful place to retreat. The facilities are excellent and the food is very good. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to experience the Cistercian way of life. I will go back again.
  • Everyone who lives and works there is lovely - very kind and welcoming. The food provided to the guests is ample, well-prepared and tasty. The guest house is comfortable, but the beds are very narrow and there's something odd about the water - it's very hard to get soap rinsed off when you shower and there's no tub to soak in. I stayed there when the bakery was still in operation and I very much enjoyed volunteering with the fruitcake-making process - I'm sorry I won't be able to repeat that experience. Overall, my silent retreat was just what I needed and hoped for and I'm grateful for the opportunity to visit Holy Cross Abbey.
  • So peaceful
