Very pleasant trip. We got to see the Rio Grande in a new way. The guide was very experienced and very friendly. The company is very well organized. They gave us all the information and guidance we needed to have a safe and pleasant experience. We just had a wonderful time.
For a rental fee of about $45 per person, Quiet Waters Paddling Adventures equips you with a life vest, paddleboard and paddle (or kayak or canoe), safety video and drop-off/pick-up for your self-guided adventure. After watching a 12-minute safety video covering all the potential obstacles of the route, the friendly staff shuttled our boards and us to the drop-off point at Coronado Campgrounds. We strapped our picnic and water-protected gear to the front of the board and pushed off on a four-hour “float” to the Alameda Bridge in Albuquerque. It is important to pay attention to the forecast, especially during monsoon season when afternoon showers can quickly transform your experience The self-guided adventure is also available for kayaks, which I would recommend for people weighing in at more than 220lbs due to the capacity of the paddleboards. The Quiet Waters website has plenty of information on what to expect, how to get there, rental fees, rental options and reservations. They have sunset tours, Balloon Fiesta tours, and many other options for family-friendly adventure.
Our family rented Kayaks for the 4th of the July adventure. We had never been Kayaking on a river before, just a lake, and we had a great time. The views were absolutely beautiful and the water was very clean. The guides were very helpful at all times. I would recommend the guided tour as opposed to the self guided tour for the first few times because it can be challenging. I read the former reviews and I must agree that you should not do this activity if you cannot swim or if you are afraid of water. The staff put out a very nice spread for our snack including shrimp cocktail! They were patient and friendly to everyone. I did not sense a hint of rudeness during out 6 hours with 6 or 7 different staff members. I would highly recommend this company and enjoying the beautiful rio grande.
The day before fathers day I was at work and thought it would be a great idea to rent a canoe to take to El Vado lake for a weekend with my son. I found Quiet Waters on google, I attempted to call the phone number twice to set up the rental but no one ever answered even though the stated business hours are 8am - 7pm. I thought this was weird but I went ahead and started to reserve the canoe online. I read through the over view and under it it stated if the customer rented the canoe after 5pm and returns before 9am then they will work with you on number of days charged. This is pretty typical of all the other places I have rented a canoe from all over the country, they usually work with you because their customers leave to go on their trips at different times of day not just a small block of time. They will usually give you a courtesy call to make sure everything is good to go. I read all other info and rented the canoe plus tax and a "refundable" cleaning charge of $25. The next day I was driving towards the Quiet Waters to pick up the canoe to head on out camping. When I called right before I got to the business I was told by a man that answered that they are not there and they cant get me the canoe for hours. He then tells me I chose a morning pick up time and I never showed up for it, they never even called me to check on my status. I told him that was a mistake I must have hit wrong when I was ordering it on my phone. I had my dog and kid all packed up with camping gear and I cant wait around for hours. I asked for a refund he told me no without a pause that wont happen, I cant cancel at the last minute. When I rechecked the over view on the website it said nothing that the pick up times are concrete and if you miss the time the company will not work with you. In fact it states that they are flexible and will to work with the customer. The only time it mentions being at a specific time is in the e-mail which I received after I made the purchase. There it states that the business is busy like a major airport so he cant be everywhere at once to take care of the customers purchase. I was amazed because even the busiest airport has people that are a desk to help you, people that are on the phone to answer your calls and when you purchase the tickets it is clearly stated the time of the flight and how it will leave if you are not there. Quiet Waters has none of this, they manipulate you to make the purchase then stick it to you if your time line does not meet theirs after the purchase is made. If your posted hours are 8am - 7pm then you need to be available to do business in those times. The worst part about this whole experience was not only did I miss taking my son on a canoe for the first time and on fathers day weekend is they charged me and never gave me the "refundable" cleaning fee back. I paid $25 for them to clean a canoe I never even touched. I attempted to write a complaint to the BBB but they are not registered with the BBB so I can do nothing on that end. If your business is doing so well you are that busy, great I am happy for you. You need to do something if want to advertise a service during a set time but not be able to provide said services that are posted on google and your website.
