  • Suddenly appears in the residential area. Is not difficult to climb, but dangerous for the elderly and small children may be. You can admire the beautiful scenery and go on a sunny day. I think just the itinerary so not to bother taking the time to go too far.

  • I live around the corner from the park, so it has been part of our family's life for over 30 years. It is a three story high boulder of Berkely Rhyolite with steps notched into one side so that you ca...  more »
  • To get up to Indian Rock Park is a bit of a steep hike but well worth the exercise to see amazing views of San Francisco and the east bay below you on a clear day.

  • The whole "park" is a giant rock. There are two main routes to get up: one is basically just a flight of stairs, the other is only marginally more challenging. There's also opportunity for bouldering your own route. Once you get up, you'll enjoy incredible panoramic views of the entire Bay -- really some of the best views in all of Berkeley!). But you will NOT be alone. Don't come here expecting solitude: there are ALWAYS people on the rock. Usually some pot-smokers, some cheeseboard pizza picnic-ers, and some tourists (sometimes all three in one!).
  • Fantastic little bouldering area in the middle of the city. Lots of great bouldering and views of San Francisco. Nice to not have to drive 2 hours to get some outdoor climbing in.
  • Totally a fun place to checkout. I think it would be great if someone organized a group game of tag/hide and seek here.
  • If you're looking to climb up a large rock in Berkeley (via mostly stairs -- not something that requires athleticism), then this is the rock for you. To the rock's credit, when you reach the top, there is a surprisingly excellent view of the bay and the city. It's now a Berkeley tourist stop when I have friends in the area. Well done, rock.
  • Great views. Accessible to most. Also offers some fun climbing routes.
