The park is 1,604 acres with 5.6 miles of river frontage along the south fork of the Shenandoah River. The rolling, mountainous land features steep slopes and is mostly wooded. In addition to meandering river frontage, the park offers scenic vistas overlooking Massanutten Mountain to the west and Shenandoah National Park to the east.A visit to Shenandoah River State Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Bentonville trip planning tool to plot your vacation.

Shenandoah River State Park Reviews
I'm almost afraid to say how perfect this park is at the risk of keeping it so peaceful and quiet. The sites are clearly marked, very large, have 50 amp hookups and water. The dump station is at the t... more »
OH HOW WONDERFUL – 4 and ½ stars (although I put five above). The only reason it is not a five star is that we had a site at the very end of the campground next to the sewer plant. No smells at all, b... more »
We stayed here with our travel trailer. Sites have 50amp service and water, no sewer but there is a dump station. Beautiful park. Huge and private sites. Gravel drives with an additional gravel patio ... more »
"Primitive" campgrounds were wonderful, hardly primitive. I've been to many state park campgrounds across the east and never experienced one this nice. Sites were large, separated from neighbors, and in a beautiful location along the Shenandoah River. The bathhouse was incredibly clean and modern, the showers were nicer than any motel. Cheap firewood sold on honors system and quick access to a network of trails traversing the state park. I would highly recommend staying at this state park.
While certainly not the most strenuous of hiking options in the region, I'd consider this a bit of a "hidden gem" in the Virginia state park system. You can leisurely spend an afternoon walking along the steady Shenandoah river, while getting some killer views of Massanutten. During my early May hike it wasn't too crowded, but I could see it getting some heavy traffic come summer-not to mention high humidity and bugs. Overall I highly recommend a visit to anyone who's a frequent hiker of the region.
A great place for a short trail run. I stop here when driving to DC: it is not far off of 66 and makes for a nice brief detour/rest stop. The trails are well maintained and well marked.
$5 entry for a car, lots of hiking paths, river access, BBQ sites, and camping/R sites! Lovely park and dog friendly. Please note, there is an absolute horrible lack of trash cans - enough to lose a star over. They need a dumpster or something available and close to the main sites (BBQ especially) or they are just asking for people to not pick up after their pets (which I noticed), and if you do pick up after your pets, you end up carrying it the whole time.. ugh...
This camping ground is totally trash-free environment, so plan your trip accordingly. There is also a lot of activity of black-bears in this area. The camp site we picked had bear-claw marks all over the tree trunk and saw a big snake near it that too (which kept me awake whole night). But the morning was so beautiful with lot of birds chirping around and trails that go by the river making me to give this park a 4 star rating.
