  • The High Desert Museum is a WONDERFUL asset of Bend. We take all of our visitors, grandchildren and friends there. It's informative, clean, happy and just great!  more »
  • This is a wonderful museum, especially for kids. Lots to see but not overwhelmingly large. Learn about the early settlers, local flora and fauna. Don’t miss the outside paths where it is great fun to ...  more »
  • The kid was not pleased about a few hours away from water and volcanoes, but this museum is also a must see in Bend! We both enjoyed the indoor and outdoor exhibits and the mill town was a big hit. I ...  more »

  • Surprisingly large and informative hidden treasure place. The admission fee is well worth it. It has art, natural history, local history, annotated outdoor hiking trails, original inhabitants exhibits, an aquarium, and live animals. We enjoyed 2+ hours there with 3 generations of family together. Shaded picnic tables outside were a great place to have lunch.
  • So much to love! -They don't start shooing you out way before closing time -Extraordinarily respectful and accurate exhibits regarding Native Americans -Great mash up of a zoo, botanical garden, natural science museum, art gallery, and museum of history/cultural sociology -Most animals are rescues and their stories are part of the charm -Docent & staff led presentations are quite well done. Loved the "Journey through Oregon 1840 - 1900." -Recreation of the settlers' cabin and sawmill is eye opening This is an indoor/outdoor museum, so dress for the weather!
  • Very interesting place about the history of settlers coming into Oregon. There is a lot of information to read and take in about the natives too. I was surprised there wasn't much about the volcanoes. For that I guess you have to go down the road to the places run by the federales. If you want to see the old sawmill run, call ahead as they run it on 3 days a year if remember right. Don't remember the days. Owls, Eagles, snakes, otters all interesting to see and read about. The ones I read about were rescued making good reason for them to be there. You could spend most of a day there. I would recommend you take your time. At $15 a head for adults, don't hurry. Oh, and they do give 10% off to military and veterans with ID. There is also a discount for college students with valid ID.
  • Very nice museum. It was not a lie when people have said it took them a good 2-3 hours to see everything. When you love history and seeing everything that evolved to now, it is so interesting. Lots of people go in and out without reading into the history, they just look from afar and walk to another section. If you truly are one to be engrossed into this, 2 and 1/2 hours is a good amount of time for this awesome museum.
  • Great place to visit if you visit Bend, they have such good exhibits. I was able to go to the rapture show and it is outdoors and very educational. I also got some great photos. I consider this my new place to go to get past history of people and animals. I'm grateful for the preserved history of the many pioneers before us.
