Monument Tourist Spot
Pay your respects to the Allied soldiers that participated in the 1944 invasion of Normandy at National D-Day Memorial. An English garden, victory plaza, and invasion tableau serve as a powerful tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the World War II battle. As the American town that suffered the greatest per-capita loss on D-Day, Bedford makes a fitting home for this important memorial, opened in 2001. Read the names of the residents who participated in the D-Day event alongside many more on tablets that border the Elmon T. Gray Plaza. The list includes all 4,413 fallen Allied soldiers, making it the most complete list of its kind in the world. Take a guided tour to learn more and read the information displays throughout the site. • Patriotic memorial really gave chills! It has the most amazing volunteers! It is so well done and anyone who loves history this is a must see!!
  • It was a special day 23 years ago when my son and I brought my Dad on the 50th anniversary of the invasion to celebrate his survival of one of the world's bloodiest battles. We have been to memorials in DC and Honolulu together, but this is our favorite. It is a magnificent and moving tribute. Now, 73 years later we need more than ever to understand the threats we face in a troubled world and give thanks to those who preserved our way of life. This year we bring our grandchildren to Bedford to remember and give thanks. In my Dad's memory and to all those who serve. Thank you.
  • Such an awe inspiring place. What those men and boys did for love of country..... They were the Greatest Generation.
  • Such a moving tribute to the men who served, and those who lost their lives on D-Day. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were surprised & impressed by how reasonable the prices in the gift shop were compared to other places. Prices for books and such were competitive with Amazon & we loved giving The National D-Day Memorial our support!
  • Breathtaking experience of a representation of Honor, Valor and Sacrifice. Memorial Day 2017 will never be forgotten. Not a dry eye in this captivated crowd.
