Climb to the top of Hunting Island Lighthouse for views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding marshes. Built in 1859 to warn ships to stay far away from nearby sandbars, wrecks, and treacherous currents, the lighthouse is the only one in the state still open to the public. The lighthouse has a height restriction, so kids might not be able to climb to the top. The climb features many steps as well as rest areas along the way. • Best $2 I've spent in a while!! Was my first lighthouse ever! Nice sturdy staircase filled with different facts and pictures along the way! Not for people who are downright terrified of heights! I am a little scared of hights but had a good friend to get me through it and the view at the top was worth it!!! Was blessed with the perfect day and had beautiful 360 views of the beach and surrounding area!! Took my breath away!! Can't wait to go back! Go early so it's not too hot or crowed ! We were there in early May got there around 10am. Perfect weather and only ran into four people at the lighthouse!
  • If your a lighthouse person, you'll like this place. What's nice is you can actually climb to the top. Don't worry it's not that taxing. The beach here is really great too, so if you want to spend the day...!
  • Neat place. Little confused on exploring the lighthouse. Paid $5 to get into the area. Beautiful place. Then had to pay an extra $2 to get into the lighthouse. Didn't mind paying but would have been nice to know ahead of time. Also the dude taking money had his own way of giving good customer service. Planning on spending more time here and on the beach next trip
  • We loved the lighthouse 6 years ago! We went back this year with a four and five year old. The hosts told us one of my boys could not go up because he wasn't 44 inches tall. This is fine, and I understand safety, however I searched their site before we went and this wasn't posted anywhere. The host- after being rude took five minutes to find a site where it did show the rule. Just a heads up before you go and have a disappointed little one. Apperantly there are two sites. The one that is easiest to find, does not have the correct information.
  • It costed $2 each for my 11 year old son and me to climb the lighthouse which is reasonable. We enjoyable reaching the top and it was a beautiful view. There is a small gift shop right next to the lighthouse where you can purchase bottled drinks. Glad we went.
