  • We were on our Heartland of America Tour and saw this site near where we were and decided to go see the little house. It is a marvel to see in person and think that over 200 years ago, 12 people lived...  more »
  • Very nice facility displaying midwest history. The displays are nicely presented and the old prairie home on the grounds was very cool. Hard to imagine living in such conditions. Well worth it to stop...  more »
  • There are two separate areas to visit. Both had excellent displays. The Education Center had a well done presentation of farm implements used by homesteaders and 3 short film clips professionally pres...  more »
  • A must see if your traveling through! Great information on the settlement history that includes a few walking paths through nature! As you can see it has an amazing view for sunsets!
  • This is a truly unique national park featuring the very first homestead building in the history of our country. It features displays of pioneer farming instruments, toys, clothing, everyday necessities, and shows how life was lived in that timeframe. They offer special events throughout the year, including fiddling contests, nature walks identifying indigenous plants from that period, Native American dance demonstrations, and so much more. They are also the focus of our town's annual Homestead Days celebration. I visit several times a year and always discover something new to be learned. It is especially important to me as my Great-Grandmother and, thus, Grandma, were homesteaders. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting at least once in your life. After all, this is how much of our country was settled.
  • June 2016: The staff here likes their jobs and it shows. It is worth the trip off the interstate. Family of 6, including 4 kids. We all learned a lot here. Very clean and very informative. Very friendly staff. Not a whole lot around the area in terms of gas or food Might be a good idea to have a full tank of gas and a full stomach upon exiting the interstate if you are driving it before coming here.
  • Great place to spend time out seeing the past..
  • Great park center with a very detailed museum. Lovely trails with good directions. Dog friendly. Worth the drive from Leavenworth. Good views the whole way there. Loved the history of Homesteading, even the more 'modern' honesteading.
