  • Great find on this against torpedo boat. We see how could happen in the lives of the soldiers on board. Very nice by a 'voluntary'. The Museum is nice, complete the tour of the boat but some things speak to the people of the country and there is too much to read. Focus mainly on the boat. There are free parking spaces in front of the Museum for those who visit.

  • The USS Kidd is a look back into the past and a visit here is a time to reflect on the sacrifice of our WWII patriots. Close to 40 Navy men died on this ship as the result of a Japanese kamikaze shell...  more »
  • We had time before our flight and went to see the USS Kidd. We were not disappointed. Enjoyed the indoor model ship displays and the tour of the KIDD. We had our 11 yr. son and he thought it was great...  more »

  • The USS Kidd is a retired US Navy Destroyer (a large boat) that has been permanently docked in Baton Rouge. I visited because a) I was interested and b) it is one of the few museums outside of a handful that are open on Mondays in Baton Rouge. There is an inside museum which is a bit sparse, but has a few interesting exhibits. The highlight is definitely the boat itself. You get to give yourself a self-guided tour and are given a map and some information to accompany it. It was fascinating to see the ins and outs of such a ship and understand for a short while what people experienced in WWII (it's a 1940s era boat). Finally, understand that this is an old naval vessel. They've added some A/C to places but it's hot when it's hot out, there are plenty of tight spaces and very steep ladders. I couldn't see the elderly, those who have mobility issues or those with very small children enjoying it very much. Overall, I would highly recommend!
  • Cool trip back in time! Very informative about the military history of Louisiana
  • A Fantastically preserved ship! Please don't forget the donation box, as a museum volunteer for years( different museum ) , I know every little bit helps!
  • What an absolutely memorable experience. If the ship wasn't enough we met a veteran who served on it while we were visiting!
  • It's such a treat to be able to explore a real battle ship. Wear light athletic clothing when you visit, because there are lots of ladders to climb to see all the areas of the ship. It's self guided, but it's easy to follow the numbers to ensure you've seen everything that you can see on the ship.
