  • Painted there for a few hours with a friend. The rocks are amazing in the morning light. Wear good hiking shoes.  more »
  • Since this is such a famous spot in Maine, of course I had to check it out and I was very happy I went but a little underwhelmed at the same time. You have to veer off the path to get a good view and ...  more »
  • Awesome part of Acadia National Park. We were able to arrive early enough for the sunset and before it got too crowded with people so we had a good spot. It gets crowded during sunset and sunrise so if you want to view during these times arrive early. There is a lot of rock climbing to get down for a good spot for viewing but you can see from other more accessible locations as well. Definitely visit if in the area.
  • Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is a beautiful lighthouse! It is wheelchair accessible and easy to access. Don’t go in the middle of the day because it is extremely busy. A must-see in Acadia National Park!
  • One of the old lighthouses from the mid 1800’s. Free parking onsite. You can walk down to the base of the lighthouse. No access. There is a bell at the bottom of the lighthouse. Also a path down the rocks where you can see a different angle from the lighthouse.
  • A classic lighthouse. While they have added pathways, you can still get down to the rocks and take some amazing pictures and explore
  • A gorgeous “quietside” Acadia excursion destination spot... not as crowded as other places in Acadia, with a gorgeous lighthouse to stand under and watch as it beams out red light to seafarers or lean against the gate and stare out at the open ocean with the salty air on your lips, and make sure to stop and read about the making of the lighthead on the stone information slab. (And afterwards, you can head over to Thurston’s Lobster Pound — the hot lobster dip, lobster roll, and an Allagash White brew are my recommendation there — which is only a few miles away, letting you sightsee on the town while you drive, getting a glimpse of how lovely life is on this quiet & mainly non-touristy slice of the Maine coast.) Because it’s a working Lighthouse (or lighthead), there’s actually a Coast Guard family living in the place, so please stay within the boundaries that the signage states so as not to be a bother to them.
