The home of Arcadia National Park and one of the largest islands off the coast of Maine, Mount Desert Island attracts over two million visitors every year. The island is known for being a place of relaxation for the rich and famous away from the bustle of New York City. It wasn't until the early 20th century that the land on the island was given to the federal government, which took steps to protect it as a park in 1919. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Bar Harbor holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Mount Desert Island and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We picked the best time of the year to see the beautiful foliage. Nature is showing her best work. Definitely a must see if you are any where near the area.
  • We drove the loop 26 mile road which there is a 25 dollar charge per car for. Do not miss this drive, amazing scenery. We also walked the shore path to Bar Island which can be done at low tide.
