  • Really neat graveyard outside a beautiful church right in the city. I didn’t realize there are actually two gravestones to see, so we only saw the large marker. It was still neat to see and worth the visit. Others reviewers have stated the area is safe; however, we visited at dusk and were approached by some interesting characters, so I’d recommend visiting during daylight hours.
  • A wonderful old burying ground with the original site of Edgar Allan Poe’s grave. The large marker at the entrance is not it - follow the path around and behind Westminster Hall to the far back corner of the grounds. There are lots of great old grave markers, so it’s interesting to walk around this site for a little while after you’ve seen the ‘main attraction’.
  • Beautiful historic cemetery and repurposed church. Unfortunately, as another reviewer stated, the gates were locked on Sunday so we couldn't enter the grounds to explore even though the website advertises that they are open daily from 8am to dusk. Poe's grave was near the street, so we could see it but the other areas were inaccessible. There's a beautiful Egyptian Revival gate along the west wall that is worth viewing.
  • The entire outside is available to walk through without a tour when the gates are open. I walked all around and at this time of year the leaves are falling, creating a fantastical carpet of rich golds intertwined with heavenly pinks scattered among the deepest crimsons I have ever seen! Edgar Allen Poe may have had a most miserable, hellish short life, but his earthly body was laid to rest surrounded by a little heaven on earth! It's a 'must see' corner of history!
  • My favorite poet's resting place was one of the first things I wanted to see when I moved to Baltimore. Did you know the Baltimore Ravens' name was inspired by Poe's, "The Raven"? Made me like their football team a tiny bit. Parking is somewhat hard to find but well worth it.
