Specialty Museum
Take a train ride along the first commercial mile of railroad track laid in the country at Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum. Built at the site of the oldest railroad station in the U.S., this museum traces the development of trains and displays an extensive collection of railroad memorabilia, a model railroad, and a working replica of the very first locomotive. Explore a historical roundhouse, observe what's happening in the engine shop, and wander through the gift shop to find souvenirs. With plenty of ramps throughout, the museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible. There is a play area for children as well as a snack bar. Train ride tickets for a short 20-mile ride are available for purchase on-site at the museum on a first come, first served basis. • This place is down right impressive! They have a large number of engines on display and allow you to get very close to pretty much everything. More impressive is the fact that they have the C&O 2-6-6-6 steam engine ok site which was the heaviest steam engine ever made
  • The B&O railroad museum is a world class attraction with world class staff. I had a fantastic time at this museum, and only wish I lived closer. (Beware, this museum could easily take an entire day.)
  • We had no idea this place existed. My 3yo son absolutely loved looking at all the trains in the roundhouse and out front in the parking lot. We went during the Thomas the Train event where they had extra events outside and the carousal was free to ride. Look for the model train setup outside in the back area, and the wooden train tables that the kids can play with inside the roundhouse.
  • Even big boys (men) love this place/ Conveniently located downtown, with ample on-site free parking. Displays both on the outside and inside of a beautifully maintained roundhouse with turntable. Paid train ride is a real hit, particularly with children. Food available on site.
  • Great museum! I used to loving coming here as a kid and it's still great. They go a great job catering to both kids and rail buffs.
