  • This is a nice zoo located north of Bakersfield, seems to cater mostly to young children. Most animal exhibits display animals from the region. We thought it was a little expensive for the size of the...  more »
  • So many lights, fascinating the way dolphins, animals, trees, characters catch your eye. The train ride is fun for adults and children. CALM only lights up for December. A fun experience for all!  more »
  • As a photographer, I was somewhat disappointed because most animals are difficult to photograph. But this small zoo, dedicated to local animal species, is very well done and looks fairly new. Most pat...  more »

  • We have been many times and my kids always love it! It's beautifully landscaped and weddings can be held here as well. They recently added a marine aspect with a hands on small structure where you can touch some salt water creatures and an in wall jellyfish tank. It's not large at all so when there are a lot of people it's hard to get in there. Good place to go and just walk around see animals and kiddos have a play area. A train ride is offered and they have holiday lights at Christmas time
  • CALM is the best zoo Bakersfield has to offer. So... do not expect much live entertainment, usually. A lot of the animals are nocturnal (like the skunks) and won't show their cute little faces in public unless they are being fed. That said... Visiting CALM is great for a peaceful retreat away from the hectic city life.
  • Would have gave it 5 stars but the best and cats weren't available to see as they were cleaning cages. Or her than that what a great place in Bakersfield for the littles!
  • Amazing experience for the family 👪. Playground with vending machines and restrooms nearby if you have children who are jumping out of their skins with energy. We had beautiful weather in early February between rainstorms. Surprisingly there was no flooding or pools of water to avoid. There was a biologist with sea creatures for children and adults alike to touch and see up close and learn about them first hand. Any age guest will find something here they will throughly enjoy. I hope this helps!
  • this place is great! lots of neat animals and tons of info on them. and all of the animals are being rehabilitated or are unable to live in the wild, so it's all for a good cause. the price is low too. holiday lights are also a fun excuse to get out of the house when it's cold. you don't get to see many animals during the event, but it's still a good time.
