  • This is an absolutely gorgeous national park. It is a bit out of the way but it is very worth it. The amount of life that lives here is incredible in contrast to the barren desert just outside the park. This park gets very few visitors so it's great to get away from the crowds of other parks. The Lehman caves are also a must see.
  • On Sat Jun 24th we hiked up to Johnson Lake. R/T was 7.8mi, 6 hours including about 20min for lunch at the lake. Absolutely a fabulous hike. The last mile is a steep grade following Snake Creek as it descends from the lake. The old mining camp buildings and other structures were very interesting. Wildlife in abundance throughout the hike. Recommend starting early in the morning, we took off at 6:30am. Very, very beautiful hike.
  • Great Basin National Park is one of my family's favorite destinations. The only issue I have with the park is the "first come, first served" campsite policy. Since the park is so remote, it is a leap of faith to travel several hours hoping to find open campsites. This may have worked well when Great Basin was a hidden gem, but lately the park has become so popular that we hesitate to make the trip, not knowing if we'll be able to stay.
  • Quite possibly the most majestic national park, ever. This is truly a slice of heaven. Quiet, intense, approachable and definitely worth the trip off the beaten path to get here. I saw the gorgeous night sky, alpine lakes, and the worlds oldest organisms all in a pristine space.
  • Lehman Caves is amazing. No park entrance fee but the cave tours are around $10 per person. Lower, upper, and Wheeler campgrounds are great with exception of the toilets. There are no camp hosts so the toilets were not cleaned in the four days we were there. A federal park employee filled the TP and mopped the floor once but never cleaned the toilets in the men's or women's.
