  • We went with our 5 year old and his dad and had a super 1 hour hike with a naturalist who explained all about the trees, animals and rock formations of the area. It was a fabulous tour with Paul.  more »
  • Toddler classes in the summertime are awesome! I wish they were offered year round. But regardless this is a great place to visit anytime!!!  more »

  • I was excited to hear there was a free snowshoe tour at the Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon. They provided snowshoes and all you needed were sturdy boots. The museum itself was a treat with great displays about the area and the animals near by. Sophia was my tour guide on the hike. She was pleasant and energetic and I could tell she loved her job and was ready to impart her knowledge. I loved that I got to touch an aspen's velvety bark. The hiking area crossed creeks and went through a beautiful forested area. Thank you Walking Mountain Science Center for a fun adventure!
  • The Avon Hike is short, easy, informative, and beautiful. The grounds are packed with biodiversity and information. The staff is very friendly, and the buildings are clean and well stocked with activities and literature.
  • Peter Suneson is an excellent and well prepared guide, very knowledgeable about the trail, nature, and the geography as well as the art and science of hiking. I joined him and a group of hikers for a hike on the Colorado Trail this fall. The views were spectacular! I wasn't sure if this was an appropriate hike for me to take so I contacted Walking Mountain Science Center prior to registering and they were very helpful. If you enjoy hiking I would definitely recommend hiking with Walking Mountains.
  • My 7 year old son just finished a week long camp at Walking Mountains and he LOVED it! This is the second year we have participated in the Summer camp program and were once again extremely pleased with it. They always keep the kids engaged and teach important information about our community, our environment and the world we live in. Our 4 year also participates in the Earth Keepers program on a regular basis and he loves it too. Overall, we are so lucky to have this amazing resource right in our own back yard! Keep up the good work WMSC!
  • Whether your are a visitor to the valley or a local, WMSC is one of the great gems of our community. Incredible programs throughout the year, world-class programs and naturalists. Be sure to check their website regularly for programs. In the winter, the evening, moonlight snowshoe tours are amazing. The kids summer programs are fantastic. And the programming throughout the year is unique and informative.
