  • Been going to the central coast for years and recently heard about the lighthouse. Beautiful views, it had been closed for four decades but with the local volunteers it is looking good, The docents were very knowledgeable on the history surrounding the lighthouse. Only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the shuttle ride or the hiking tour. I plan on going again. Bob Jones Clovis, CA
  • NOT OPEN TO PUBLIC - unless you go on a saturday morning hike w/ the docents, or make prior arrangements. You can't just walk there on any day.
  • Fascinating tour with a lovely hike or trolley ride. As access is controlled by PG&E you have to sign a waiver and reserve online for a docent led tour. The trail to the Point San Luis Lighthouse is open to 20 hikers on Wednesday and 40 hikers on Saturdays with an 8:45 check-in and a return time of 1 PM. You can also just show up in the morning but it is best to reserve with PG&E to ensure space on tour. There is a short hike/trolley(available for $20) where the docent will describe some of the plants and animals and give a little history of the area. The hike is fairly easy but does have some hills and steps so if you are worried you can take the trolley. Once you arrive at the lighthouse you are required to pay a $5 dollar fee for a guided tour but you can visit the grounds for free. The tour inside is worth the fee and there is a little shop too if you want to purchase souvenirs. Excellent views of Avila beach and the breakwater.
  • The Lighthouse is breathtaking. The road up to it can be an E ticket. Steep and winding road.
