  • Zilker park used to be an amazing place to spend the day. Now it is incredibly over crowded and parking is atrocious. Be prepared to park in the dirt and walk along way and pay to park in the dirt. Pe...  more »
  • This park has it all and it's pleasing to see. Kids, dogs, families, solo runners, they all find satisfaction in this place. I came for the botanical garden and wasn't disappointed. Sweaty sweaty afte...  more »
  • This was an amazing experience, even as an out of town visitor. We were able to rent kayaks from several different options and then walked around as well. The park is wide open and has several differe...  more »

  • Of course this is a wonderful place to spend time outdoors with friends and family. The Zilker Zephyr train ride is a must for those with children (or young at heart) Barton Springs Pool is crisp and clear as always, with plenty of room for everyone. The playground is adjacent to a pavilion for resting, lunching, or even a birthday party. Trails, bridges... everything is connected for walking, running, biking. Dogs and children play along the way. GO!
  • Gorgeous! Dog friendly! Not a lot of shade near the trails, but grassy areas are well maintained. Lots of little historical nuggets and plentiful seating. Felt very safe walking alone as a young woman. Beautiful natural river and urban vistas.
  • This park is perfect. It's close to home, there's always parking on the west end, and there's plenty of space to let your dog(s) run around and play (with other dogs!). I don't come here on the weekends, because it's paid parking, but on a weekday evening, my fiance and I come down here regularly to eat a picnic dinner and meet people (and their dogs). There are also great running trails along the river that can be accessed from here.
  • Amazing place to visit especially for those who have pets or just want to relax. The parking is intense but it's worth the wait. For new visitors.. it's free on one side, the rockier one, and not free to sit on the grassier side. Whichever location you pick it's still a guarantee that you'll have a great time.
  • Great place to go on a Sunday afternoon. They charge for parking on Lou Neff Rd so be warned. Take a Frisbee and find a tree to spend time under. The grass is soft and everyone will have a great time. Walk down to the trail and look at the water. Wave at the people ricing the Zilker Zephyr kiddie train!

Where to stay in Austin

Austin bills itself as the "Live Music Capital of the World," so it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of its hotels sell out long before the city's popular festivals. If you wish to stay near downtown's live music scene, look for package deals and book your accommodations well in advance. If downtown clubs and bars aren't your priority, consider hotels located just outside the central part of town, in comfortable areas where you won't need a car to get to most of the city's major cultural sites.
