  • The Arboretum is a nice section of Austin, that said the shopping choices are pretty minimal. Check store listings.  more »

  • A lovely sprawling outdoor mall. The best part is the "cow park" area. It has benches and chairs to enjoy a lunch or ice cream from Amy's. The park is well maintained and clean. It has a decent restroom. There is plenty of green space, and there's a walking path down to a large duck pond.
  • I really like this place. They have everything that you need there. You can get a hair cut, get your nails done, have a massage, have a meal, stop at HEB for groceries and grab a smoothie if you need it. One stop shopping center. It's great.
  • This place has something for every member of the family. Fine dining or quick hamburgers and ice cream. Books, games, housewares, clothes. A great park with water features and the iconic marble cows to climb on. Geese at the pond.
  • Cool place to hang out. In the day, the pond is pretty cool. A few ducks or geese here and there. At night, it's a great place to sit at one of their tables and hang out with friends. Great choice of food. No complaints. There's ice cream too.
  • High-class shopping center anchored by Barnes & Noble bookstore and Cheesecake Factory restaurant. Nice place to walk around, especially on a hot day thanks to the plentiful trees. Don't miss the Amy's Ice Cream shop and the little park behind it.

Where to stay in Austin

Austin bills itself as the "Live Music Capital of the World," so it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of its hotels sell out long before the city's popular festivals. If you wish to stay near downtown's live music scene, look for package deals and book your accommodations well in advance. If downtown clubs and bars aren't your priority, consider hotels located just outside the central part of town, in comfortable areas where you won't need a car to get to most of the city's major cultural sites.
