  • The Arboretum is a nice section of Austin, that said the shopping choices are pretty minimal. Check store listings.  more »

  • Pretty decent outdoor mall, anchored by the huge Barnes and Noble bookstore and the cheesecake factory. There are a few high end shops and a few good eateries in addition to that and a nice sculpture garden around the back. There's also a good Brazilian steakhouse here. The problem is parking. This has to be o w of the worst parking lots in all of Austin, with tiny spots, not enough of them and no room to pass.
  • Season salmon with salt and pepper. Place salmon, skin side down, on a non-stick baking sheet or in a non-stick pan with an oven-proof handle. Bake until salmon is cooked through, about 12 to 15 minutes. Serve with the Toasted Almond Parsley Salad and squash, if desired.
  • Lots of shops and places to eat such as Cheesecake Factory, and a 2 story Barnes and Noble! Traffic getting there can be intense as it is located in a busy area of Austin. But it's worth the hassle!
  • Nice beautiful upper class stores but the area lacks enthusiasm and continuity. Game Stop is attached to Barnes and Nobel bookstore, which makes it easier to take my son with me! The coffee shop inside B nd N is quite overpriced and the food lousy. We had coffee and "treats," hmm 4 times, and will not again. Bad tasting! Maybe they could get a Mom n Pop coffee shop with good snacks and delicious coffee to enjoy while reading new bought books. We would go more often for that, hint hint.
  • Good place to shop several different types of stores. And Cheesecake Factory is always a plus!

Where to stay in Austin

Austin bills itself as the "Live Music Capital of the World," so it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of its hotels sell out long before the city's popular festivals. If you wish to stay near downtown's live music scene, look for package deals and book your accommodations well in advance. If downtown clubs and bars aren't your priority, consider hotels located just outside the central part of town, in comfortable areas where you won't need a car to get to most of the city's major cultural sites.
