Emma Long Metropolitan Park, Austin
(3.8/5 based on 35+ reviews on the web)
Emma Long Metropolitan Park is a large municipal park in northwest Austin, Texas (United States). The park is on the shores of Lake Austin and was originally called City Park.In 1939, Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1805 that had just finished Bastrop State Park moved to the site to begin developing the tract of land into a municipal park. The company's primary work included seeding and sodding grass, planting trees, and protecting the bank of the lake from erosion. They built docks, piers and a boathouse. They also built a wooden bath house and concession stand. These wooden structures burned and were replaced with stone structures that are still in use.In 1984, the Austin City Council renamed the park after Emma Long, a former Austin City Council Member. Long was the first woman to serve on the council of a large city in Texas. She also served as the first woman Mayor Pro Tem from 1967-1969.

  • Really nice park for a family picnic. Picnic area so close to clear and beautiful lake. You can BBQ, but you need to carry your own BBQ pit; Beautiful, clean and peaceful park with pretty decent toilets and parking facilities and boating facilities!
  • We had a work party here. The lake is clear and clean enough that we all swam in it. The space is wide open and it was clean. Lots of parking. Bathrooms were decent for a park. What more can you ask for?
  • A bit out of the way, it's a nice quiet large park with options for hiking, biking, even a motorcycle trail, and swimming. Boating too, I believe. There is a fee to gain access to the deeper part of the park.
  • Nice park with plenty of shade and camping options. A great place to hike and explore the hill country. Along the Colorado river you can swim or just chill and enjoy a cold beverage.
  • Awesome place!! Great area for a family get together or an outing. We had a church function... a baptism in the river! Perfect place for it!
