  • Took my kids (3 and 6 yr) for a morning walk trough the nature center on a sunny day. The indoor facility with few science rooms can keep kids occupied for 20-30 min while the amazing dinopit kept the...  more »

  • Local serene nature gem south of downtown! Great for toddlers and preschoolers. Many local elementary schools tour during the week. Points of interest are the visitor center with a small cave, carbon atoms, and other natural artifacts one can experience hands-on, small wonders building has native Texan animals such as a Texas rat snake or tarantulas, birds of prey area has various owls, hawks, and vultures. Walk around the pond to the Dino pit where children can uncover Dino bone replicas. Last but not least, there are about 10-15 caged animals which have been injured and can an not return to the wild and include a gray fox, prairie dog, Bob cat, Cara cara, Raven, mallard ducks, raccoon, and porcupine. Can easily stay for a 2 hour stint.
  • Nice place, great hidden gem in the trails. Challenging for children due to several steep and slippery parts but worthwhile to explore!
  • Great day out for the kids to learn and play. Huge dinosaur discovery sand pit.
  • My family went for the very first time, and we are beyond impressed! We had such a great time. Beautiful landscape, amazing exhibits. We will definitely be back!
  • Fun for kids. I wish the animals had bigger cadges.

Where to stay in Austin

Austin bills itself as the "Live Music Capital of the World," so it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of its hotels sell out long before the city's popular festivals. If you wish to stay near downtown's live music scene, look for package deals and book your accommodations well in advance. If downtown clubs and bars aren't your priority, consider hotels located just outside the central part of town, in comfortable areas where you won't need a car to get to most of the city's major cultural sites.
