Resorts Casino Hotel is a hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Resorts was the first casino hotel in Atlantic City, becoming the first legal casino outside of Nevada in the United States, when it opened on May 26, 1978. The resort completed an expansion in 2004, adding the 27-story Rendezvous Tower, and underwent renovations in 2011, converting the resort to a Roaring Twenties theme.HistoryFirst hotels on the siteThe Resorts site was originally occupied by two three-story wooden Quaker rooming houses, The Chalfonte House and The Haddon House. The Chalfonte House was built in 1868 by Elisha and Elizabeth Roberts. They had purchased a plot of land at North Carolina Avenue and Pacific Avenue from John DaCosta for $6500.00. The hotel was constructed during the winter for a cost of $21,000 and could accommodate 140 guests. They named the hotel for Chalfont St Giles, the town in Buckinghamshire where William Penn is buried. The Chalfonte House was expanded and moved oceanward twice, in 1879 and 1889.The Haddon House was opened across the street, on the current Resorts site, by Samuel and Susanna Hunt in 1869. They named the hotel for the Quaker family who had founded Haddonfield, New Jersey. It was sold to Leeds & Lippincott in 1890. In 1896 they rebuilt The Haddon House at a cost of $200,000, naming the new, larger hotel "Haddon Hall".

  • I had an hour to kill before dinner at Rurt Chris an wanted to play a little Joker Poker. The parking was free so what could go wrong? What was wrong g was I felt like I'd walked into the Port Authority Bus Terminal and someone had install slot machines. My fellow gamblers were smoking cigarettes like it was their last day. The general ambience was that of poorly kept restroom. The slots were mostly new and attractive. The people were the ones your Mom warned you about.
  • The food and floor are great. Large senior citizen attendance. Ample parking. I withheld one star because the room I stayed was small and bland. For the cost, I expect more. The view was OK, but not great. I often visit for gambling or food, but rarely stay in the hotel.
  • Horrible. Our room was disgusting and smelled horrible. It was also very outdated. The bathroom was really gross. Food was medicore at best. We were supposed to get a ocean front nonsmoking room and we got a smoking room and no view what so ever. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Only redeeming quality was the staff. Very nice.
  • As a hotel it's not bad. I just hate casinos... everything about them. We stayed there because some much loved relatives are hugely into gambling and were able to get us rooms at no cost. Otherwise, I wouldn't go near one of these places. That said, the restaurants are good and the domestic staff does a good job. The rooms themselves are nice. Huge bathrooms!
  • Great place to spend a day. Very clean casino with friendly people. Iv'e been going there for 5yrs and never had a bad experience. Would visit again.
