  • This is a fabulous place to visit, wear walking shoes. There is a small visitor museum with loads of historical info on the cemetary. My friends and I chose to visit a few graves of the most popular, ...  more »
  • My wife and I saw many wonderfully designed grave sites. Really artistic architecture went into these designs. Bobby Jones and Margaret Mitchell are interred at this cemetery.  more »
  • Our day started out drizzly, which is perfect for a day at the cemetery. We promptly went to the visitors center and purchased a map of the grounds for $5. We could have used the "app" for it, but wan...  more »

  • Beautiful and peaceful, Oakland Cemetery, provides a memorable way to spend a leisurely sunny day. After parking across the street and grabbing a cup of coffee from Octane (hipster joint across the street), we spent the day wandering around the famous graves and admiring the gardens. (No admittance Fee) Make sure to stop at the Visitors Center and Museum Shop. The shop is staff by knowledgeable and passionate volunteers who can provide you with a self-guided tour map, free brochures and burial records. The shop features items made by local artists and a clean restroom and refreshments. Check out their website to see what events are taking place. The cemetery comes alive during the month of October, with a festival and tours to boot!
  • As cemeteries go, this is probably one of the more interesting ones with a lot of history. They even have tours. If you are looking for something to do on a nice day that is free, it worth exploring.
  • Atlanta history! Fantastic to walk around or come by when they are having an event or walking tour. Really amazing place.
  • really enjoyed the day there, Download the app (Oakland cemetery) pay the money to unlock all 60 plus stops its worth it (first 6 stops are free) You can drive into the cemetery just stay on the blacktop would not recommend large vehicles as there are lots of tight spaces .
  • First of all, this area is being regentrified. It is one of the main spots to see in Atlanta as it has a rich history. Maynard Jackson and Margaret Mitchell are just 2 of the people buried here...

Where to stay in Atlanta

Most of Atlanta's top hotels cluster in a downtown area with an easy-to-remember name--the Hotel District. The city's political and commercial hub, this area offers quick walking access to most major attractions. Another good area for boutique hotels and rental apartments is the ever-expanding Midtown, with proximity to most of Atlanta's big-name museums and theaters. If you're looking to save some money on accommodations, explore options in the more economical chain hotels outside downtown; from there, you can take the city's public transport to centrally located attractions and activities.
