  • Visiting the State Botanical Garden was full of surprises today. They had music in the park with beautiful terraced lawns for people to spread out on, fire flies at dusk all throughout the park, and l...  more »
  • Didn't know it existed. My friend and I traveled 4.5 from Savannah for a wedding held in the gardens' conservatory. Neither she nor I had seen the gardens before. The wedding activity left little time...  more »

  • A highlight of outdoor life in Athens, locals can make the experience different with every trip. Multiple gardens with different themes in a very walkable array highlight this treasure. One can also take a robust hike along the river and see lots of birds, beavers, and other wildlife. Kids enjoy the statuary and the giant globe fountain. Learning opportunities abound in the indoor garden space, with unique spaces including food and medicinal plants, plants with industrial uses, and many species of orchids. This is a fun place to go every weekend with the kids, or to bring out of town visitors. The gift shop focuses on learning items, books with a focus on nature and gardening, and interesting learning toys and the staff are pleasant all around.
  • A great way to get outside and walk in the woods. Its also a very photogenic place. You always see people taking pictures with their hired photographer here. The chapel is a gorgeous place as well. Just limited seating.
  • A beautiful and relaxing space to walk around and explore. The space is laid out well and there are plenty of places to sit both on the trail and also within the visitor center. There is a cafe, vending machine and small gift shop in the visitor's center. Visiting is free although they do suggest a $2 donation to assist with upkeep (there is a box inside the visitor's center to make that donation).
  • This place is wonderful! Always something in bloom! The best botanical garden I have been to including much larger cities. It is kept beautiful by a virtual army of volunteers and UGA students. Great place to visit for an hour or 2 if you're visiting the area. Great walking trails also including one by the river that is over 2 miles.
  • the gardens were beautiful and a fun activity! the directional signs around were kind of confusing, but the facilities were clean as far as the outdoors go. great photo opportunities here!
