  • Not much to see -- a few restored buildings. Maintained by local volunteers, so it'd be a nice walk, if you're in the area and have some extra time. The placard on the history is interesting. Nice vie...  more »
  • There is a bit to see here, a few buildings, some informatives signs, a nice view as you are surrounded by peaks in a bowl. But not worth more than a short look.  more »
  • We have been to Independence Pass several times, but somehow never stopped at this Ghost Town. This time we stopped at the ghost town and not the pass! It was well worth the stop! We had an enjoyable ...  more »

  • Unique place. Following is info from information sign at this place: "The Rocky Mountains are the center of the Ute's world. According to legend, the Ute were the mountains' first people. They spent their lives migrating with the seasons and following the animals that fed them, clothed them, & guided them spiritually & socially. Many modern roads & passes are trails the Ute traveled for hundreds of years as they followed their migratory paths. Desire for the Ute's territory became overwhelming when gold was found in 1858. Tens of thousands of prospectors & settlers poured into the mountains. By 1861, the Colorado Territory was created &, in 1879, the Roaring Fork Valley was opened to prospectors eager to stake their claims. By 1880, the Ute were relocated to three reservations. The Ute, whose homelands included the Roaring Fork Valley, found it especially difficult to be exiled from their mountain home to the semi-arid land of Southern Colorado & Eastern Utah. Their traditional way of life was altered & the were no longer allowed to hunt & gather in the mountains, but were expected to farm on semi-arid lands."
  • Awesome ghost town. Don't expect to find any functioning building. No commercial enterprises here. No bathrooms. No trinket sales. Just wander around among the ruins. Be careful as there are nails and such lying about.
  • I absolutely love that Aspen had taken the responsibility of excavating and preserving this town and Ashcroft. Definitely bought some stuff from the general store and gave donations. I imagine that all the hard work of those miners 100 years ago was somewhat more bearable by this high altitude valley and its vistas.
  • The kids thoroughly enjoyed the ghost town. Amazing to see the history preserved there. A long drive but definitely worth the trip
  • Beautiful views even during the off season. Amazing little hike.
