Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, Ashland

4.2
#6 of 39 in Museums in Nebraska
The SAC Aerospace Museum, located between Lincoln and Omaha near Interstate 80, utilizes over 300,000 square feet of exhibit, education, and event space to educate, inspire, and entertain its guests. Organized in 1959, the original mission of the museum was to commemorate the contributions of the Strategic Air Command, which until 1992 was headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base. The museum moved to its current location in 1998 upon completion of a new indoor facility. The museum houses an impressive collection of military aircraft and other artifacts, many of which have been restored in the museum’s on-site restoration facility. As part of its commitment to education, the museum has recently established a partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Office of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education to provide cutting-edge educational opportunities for student, teachers, families, and adult learners. Traveling exhibits, permanent exhibits, and a variety of special events provide additional unique experiences for the museum’s members and visitors.

  • We arrived at SAC Museum at 10 on a Saturday. Not too busy but we were not alone. We started with the wing furthest from the "Kid Innovation" area, hoping to have that be the final hoorah, but man wer...  more »

  • Don't waste your time. It is 12 dollars a person and more than half of their science attractions are broken or missing parts. They also knew that their card machine wasn't working from day 1 but when we paid for our family they never said anything about "oh hey you will need these cards to view some of the machines (if they are working)" they just let us carry on. Instead we walked around the building for a bit until we realized we needed these cards and then went to the card machine to make some, just to realize it was broken like half the exhibits. I wish they kept this place up better because it had some neat exhibits but for how expensive it is i wouldn't waste your money. The AC was not cool enough. Was very hot.
  • If you like planes or military displays, then you should definitely visit this museum. You won't be disappointed. There are also other related exhibits that complement the experience...holocaust, Tuskegee airmen, science and learning center for kids.
  • Loved all of the history here, enjoyed the displays and the hands on kids stuff. Would've liked to be able to actually examine the interior of more of the aircraft. The description boards of each aircraft was very informative.
  • Lots of neat aircraft and information on them. Kids areas were pretty cool, especially the black hole interactive exhibits. Would definitely stop again.
  • Went with some friends but probably would have been better with kids. Lots of kid friendly activities. We enjoyed the simulator but it's pretty expense for just a short ride.
