Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center exhibits traditional and contemporary arts and crafts from nearly 1,000 craftspeople from nine states in the Appalachian region. The guild, chartered in 1930, fostered commerce for craftspeople of the region during the Great Depression. You'll have the chance to see live craft demonstrations in the center lobby. Tour the galleries to see examples of clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, paper, and other natural fiber arts and crafts. For an opportunity to purchase guild member work, stop in at the center's main gift shop, Allenstand, which claims to be the United States' oldest continuously running craft shop.
