Grove Arcade, Asheville

3.9
#6 of 15 in Sightseeing in Asheville
Architectural Building Tourist Spot
Tour the Palladian and Gothic architecture of Grove Arcade as you indulge in a little shopping at this historical mall. The structure--designed by architect Charles N. Parker for E.W. Grove, a self-made millionaire and Asheville resident--was built in 1929 and restored in 2002. Outside, note the regal, winged lions at the north entrance. Inside, you'll find ornate, spiral staircases and the grotesques--gargoyle-like decorations that line the north and south arcades. At the outdoor Portico Market, explore the wares of farmers and craftspeople--and be sure to try some traditional fudge. • Opening: 1929. I & mom went to visit there. Wow, so beautiful place, shopping, very old building. I love it see everywhere go. 😮💜
  • Every time I come to Asheville - I come to the Grove Arcade. This is a mall before mall's even existed. Truly a marvel in early collective commerce! I really enjoy the layout and the architecture. I understand this is from the 1920's and, to me, is the center of AVL commerce. I navigate using this location as the zero-point.
  • Beautiful building. Battery Park Books is our favorite store inside!
  • Beautiful building with great architecture! Discovered after hours and had to go back to check out the shops!
  • Has some interesting places to shop and is in a good location.
