Grove Arcade, Asheville

Categories: Architectural Buildings, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web
Tour the Palladian and Gothic architecture of Grove Arcade as you indulge in a little shopping at this historical mall. The structure--designed by architect Charles N. Parker for E.W. Grove, a self-made millionaire and Asheville resident--was built in 1929 and restored in 2002. Outside, note the regal, winged lions at the north entrance. Inside, you'll find ornate, spiral staircases and the grotesques--gargoyle-like decorations that line the north and south arcades. At the outdoor Portico Market, explore the wares of farmers and craftspeople--and be sure to try some traditional fudge. • Wonderful walking adventure amongst the shops, both outdoor and indoor. There's something for everyone!
  • This is an old building which they recreated into stores of different crafters. It is worthwhile to see.
  • Another good place to stay out of the rain. My favorite place here was Sante restaurant. There are multiple shops and restaurants with some unique things. There was a furniture store near Sante that h...  read more »
  • Nice place to walk through. Everything inside is on the more expensive side. Not really much to do but walk through and snap some pictures, really.
  • Very beautiful shopping center. I actually saw images of it and wanted to see it, but when we actually made it to Asheville, we literally stumbled inside and didn't notice that it's the Arcade until 10 minutes after walking around. They have some extraordinary stores that you just want to be in to look - clock and timepiece store, odd furniture store, European clothing boutique and others... Clean and tidy, too.
  • The crystal shop called enter the earth, is by far my favorite. But all of the stores are amazing and I've enjoyed every meal I've eaten there!
  • had Lunch with my wife and friends. Absolutely great. In fact, fantastic is a better description of the wonderful testing meals we all enjoyed! Compliments to the Chef and staff !!
  • If there is inclement weather this place is ideal. Climate controlled indoor (two story) mall arcade with history and lovely architecture. Take a stroll down history lane with this old style modern arcade. It's a pleasant walk with many unique shops to entertain you. Depending how leisurely you decide to stroll through the different stores or decide to just observe from the store front, you can master this place in as little as 30 minutes or as long as 2-3 hours and beyond. It's also conveniently located in the downtown area and easily accessible.
