4.5
#1 of 1,695 in Things to do in North Carolina
Historic Site Tourist Spot
The main house on Biltmore Estate contains more than 250 rooms, making it the largest privately owned home in the world. A short drive from the city, the sprawling estate includes landscaped gardens, stables, expansive hiking trails, and an award-winning winery. Go on a guided tour of the Renaissance-inspired house to learn about the Vanderbilt family, who built this large family home between 1889 and 1895. You may prefer a coach tour of the 3,237 hectare (8,000 acre) estate, where you'll learn how this land was developed and visit areas generally not open to regular guests. Explore the website to determine which tour is best suited to your interests, and reserve your tickets at least two days in advance.
