  • Interesting historic town. Easy to walk around with several open buildings to visit. A trail takes you to the Missouri River. We stayed at the campground which was very quiet and also good for day use. The museum in town was very interesting. There are a couple of good local restaurants, but be sure to make reservations during the busy season.
  • I am a historian by trade, and a Missouri historian at that, so I think this is one of the coolest places ever. If you're not quite as in to history, this is still a fun place to visit. The whole site is a historic landmark. Beautiful old homes, very walkable, some antique shops, a museum, a gift shop, a couple of restaurants (including the J Huston Tavern), ice cream, B&Bs, and a theatre. It's very close to Boonville and not far from Columbia, so if you're already in that area it's a great place to spend a day.
  • We camped in the campground. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. Electric sites are gravel. Road through camp are paved. The host was very helpful. Playground is a walk across to the other side past the basic camp sites where the day use area is. Further north up the road is the historic site and downtown.
  • Quaint town of Arrow Rock and historic tavern are in hiking distance, with fishing & trails around Soldier Lake, just a short walk away. On a September night, the water's shore also lights up with glow worms!
  • Super history and interesting guides.
