  • We drove up Mt. Lemmon for a day hike on the Lemmon Rock Lookout Trail. Unfortunately the road was closed beyond the ski area, so we hiked the Butterfly Trail instead. For an early February hike, this...  more »
  • My husband got a new 4X4 truck so he wanted to try it out. We took the back roads up the mountain and some were pretty rough. He was having a great time. The area is beautiful. We saw many deer, birds...  more »

  • Spectacular drive up to the mountain peaks. The drive is very safe and extremely scenic. Drive to the top and visit the small village of Summer haven. There are numerous locations along the route to the top to stop and take in the scenery or take photographs. The views at search of the vistas are unique. Driving to the top of Mount Lemmon is like driving from Mexico to Canada ... desert at the bottom and pine trees and snow at the top. . .
  • Definitely a good place to go to get out of the city. Beautiful sight of the whole Tucson area and further from even some of the lowest points on the mountain. Though some people take the curves at 60 mph so watch out for that.
  • 🎖️BEST OF... Often listed by travel magazines as one of America's best scenic drives, and makes my personal "best drives" list as well. Ascent is actually a tour through just about every kind of terrain and climate zone found in the Southwest, all experienced in a short 30 mile ride Start in the sun-baked desert flats of Tucson, proceed up through the elevations where the saguaro cactus grows, then through brush and short scrubby trees. Wind through rocky needles standing tall like sentinels, past turnouts overlooking canyons hundreds of feet deep, and upwards past stands of tall timber, some deeply scarred by fire a decade ago that threatened to consume the whole mountainside. Your trip winds up at Summer Haven, a resort community set in an alpine woodland. Like the name suggests, its a get-away for the valley dwellers looking to escape the oppressive summer heat which can get up to 120 degrees and occasionally more. This area was the hardest hit by the aforementioned fire. Most of the building you see now have been rebuilt. Nearby also is a ski resort, making this the area Tucson's favorite gat-away year around. To learn more, check around the toll gate you had to pause at before your ascent. You'll find info on how to get a navigation app which is now available for visitors, providing detailed explanations of much more about the drive than I could list here... Mt. Lemmon is a true BEST OF...
  • Ten days ago.. Takes about an hour to drive to the top..nice views..nice restaurant..great dessert! Not much snow this year..last year the road was closed from blizzard night before..though it did snow on us at the top this year!
  • Definitely worth the drive! Took an hour or so to get to the top. Super curvy paved road.
