Yost Ice Arena, Ann Arbor

4.6
Yost Ice Arena is an indoor ice hockey arena located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is the home of the University of Michigan varsity ice hockey team which plays in the Big Ten Conference. It has served as home of Michigan hockey since 1973–74.HistoryBuilt in 1923 as a field house, the facility is named in honor of Michigan's legendary football coach and athletic director, Fielding H. Yost. For many years, it housed the Michigan men's and women's basketball teams, until those teams relocated their sporting events to the larger Crisler Arena in 1967. It also housed the track teams in the 1950s. In 1973, following the completion of the Crisler Center for basketball, it was converted into an ice arena, and the Michigan hockey team has used it ever since. The University of Michigan's Senior and Collegiate synchronized skating and freestyle teams also practice at Yost. In addition, local high school teams, recreational leagues (AAAHA) and the university's intramural hockey league call it home.Yost Ice Arena has hosted NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament games five times in its history, most recently in 2003.

  • a must see for any hockey fan, the building is so unique, easy to find, and great atmosphere when Michigan is playing!  more »
  • Really cool Arena, we were seated up the top because we bought very cheap tickets which weren't great but what can you expect! Stadium is but, but small enough tHat you can clearly see all players  more »
  • The arena is a totally different place to watch U-M college hockey, or as a destination for Saturday/Sunday open skating. It was remodeled in 2012 (a major remodel of several done over the years), and...  more »

  • Sometimes it is VERY FUN to be here. Other times it is not fun at all. It is very bright inside. Sight lines are great. The ushers are friendly just like at every Michigan sporting event. Overall I think Yost is great. Just sometimes it is not fun to go to. But other times it is the most fun place you could possibly go. You just won’t know until the buzzer sounds.
  • The facility itself is great, but the service is excruciatingly slow. You must wait in the regular line for public skate even if you have a season pass. Also, be careful about having your skates sharpened here. They botched the first sharpening of my new skates and had to redo it. It took forever and probably shaved years off their life.
  • One of my favorite hockey venues ever. It’s loud, it’s packed to the rafters, and it’s incredible fun! One of the most unique hockey arenas you’ll find, and one of the loudest, too! I pity the families of opposing athletes that walk into this arena, they don’t stand a chance!
  • Fun in-your-face college hockey battleground, home to Michigan Wolverines and Children of Yost. Recognized by Wall Street Journal with Golden Zamboni award for best crowd and best hockey student section in the country.
  • Great atmosphere to enjoy college hockey at its' best.
