State Park Nature / Park
Mounds State Park, located off I-69 east of Anderson, features 10 unique earthworks built by prehistoric Native Americans known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the Great Mound, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Archaeological surveys indicate the mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies, from where astronomical alignments could be viewed. The park features a Nature Center, hiking trails, a swimming pool, camping, and a canoe launch.

  • So beautiful! There are so many trails and places to go and things to do. Plus they're commitment to preserving the sacred mounds of the adena-hopewell people is absolutely commendable. So sacred and so gorgeous. The pictures I uploaded are of the Great Mound.
  • Great park. Great for the family. Plenty to see and learn. Offer a few things here and there... events and such.
  • We went camping this past weekend. Not the best place to camp. Airport on one side of the camp ground and on the otherside there are train tracks. Trains go all night! The bathrooms are dirty and ran down. The fit pits are on blocks so lots of ash. We will be back for a day trip but not to camp. The trails were nice but not marked in most spots when crossing another trail and the map doesn't show the trails accurate.
  • Awesome park with an interesting history. The nature center has tons of information and is kid friendly. My only complaint would be that the trails could be more clearly marked. I would also like to complain about the mosquitoes, but that's just Indiana not the parks fault!
  • Nice nature center, very interesting archeological locations, and some decent trails. On the small side for a state park with a fee... Not as impressive as I would have expected.
