Some people have reviewed this that shouldn't have. It's not a strenuous enough hike for you? Did you think it would be by the description? It's not a walk, it's a bit of a hike because it is a little... read more »
The hike aggravated a knee problem, which affected the next few hikes - the falls were average and just not worth it.
I think the reason why I didn't give this trail a higher ranking is because my original expectations were very high! I had read reviews on TripAdvisor and AllTrails saying that this was the highest ra... read more »
This is a great quick hike to a beautiful waterfall. Its a mile in and a mile out. Not too strenuous, but a few decent little hills. The lookout has a great view of the falls, or you can hike down to the river.
"Quick hike" and "easy stroll" are not how I would discribe this, but it pretty. If you usually an active person, this is a bit tiring. But the waterfall at the top is awesome. There is a fee box to pay there, but they do a great job of maintaining the trail, and bridges.
Thunderbird falls is a nice short hike, while the trail can get a bit steep at some places, it is well taken care of. However, as others have said, it is on a cliff and while there is a buffer for most of the trail, at one point it disappears and you're walking next to a cliff. When the trail splits, the left path goes to the creek and the right trail goes to a viewing deck that has a great opportunity for photos. and for you pokemon go people, there are three stops and two gyms
Not a bad hike right off the highway, but don't expect the waterfall to be spectacular. The trail is in good shape. Keep small children close, there are steep drops right off the trail. There is an upper viewing platform and an optional trail to walk down closer to the base of the waterfall. Bring your bug spray. If you don't mind driving a bit further, I would recommend Eklutna Lake for better scenery.
This is a beautiful waterfall absolutely worth the trip. A good area for hiking but do watch out for steep drops. Also watch out for Moose and Bears it's Alaska you know.
