  • My Aurora Winter Train trip began in Anchorage (1/13/18) @ 7:30 AM for an easy check-in. Once the luggage tags have been applied (take your half of the baggage claim ticket) and delivered to the door ...  more »

  • I walked across the Park doing the complete route that lasted a day, from Fairbanks to Anchorage, and it was the best train ride I've ever done. I thought you were going to be bored, but this did not occur, because the landscape is amazing and all the time something comes along (or an animal) interesting to see and photograph. In addition, the Gold Star Class, the service is all inclusive and the gastronomic experience made it worth every penny: breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and two drinks/alcoholic beverage of choice. Wonderful menu! It's a lot of eating for one ride. All very well organized from boarding to landing. I think we did 3 or 4 stops where it was possible to stretch my legs and get some fresh air for about 10 minutes each. Although in Gold class circulávamos enough in the car and outside deck!

  • Way too expensive. I would use the train so much more often if it werent so expensive. They would make more money too. Everyone in talkeetna denali and fairbanks would use it to get to anchorage and other towns. Too bad.

Where to stay in Anchorage

Anchorage hotels increase room rates during the height of the tourist season, but you can visit the area economically any time of year by choosing a budget-friendly bed and breakfast or small inn. The city's downtown area contains the priciest rooms; most are offered by chain hotels. You can find less expensive rooms at a cluster of hotels located in Midtown, a largely commercial neighborhood with a good selection of restaurants and shops.
