A bustling promenade offering shopping, dining, and entertainment, Downtown Disney is an outdoor area within the sprawling Disney resort in Anaheim. Often called the resort's "shoppertainment center," the area lies between two theme parks and their hotels. Opened in 2001 as part of the resort's massive expansion, this entertainment district encourages extended stays in the popular Disney-themed entertainment complex. The district provides free parking for up to five hours, so you can take your time to enjoy a hearty meal and a few cocktails at an open-air cafe, shop at one of the largest Disney stores in the world, or explore a range of outdoor entertainment options, nightclubs, and movie theaters. Fun but not as extensive as Orlando's Downtown Disney so lacks luster a bit. Needs more shops. Some sort of show such as La Nouba.
Review for Steakhouse 55 in Downtown Disney District: Smiles are always forthcoming while exercising in the happiest place on earth. Wore a skirt with flowing blouse---date night was an active one requiring a 5 mile walk. We took a seat in the luxurious lounge with velvet appointments and ordered from the leather-bound menu book. Someone insisted on the 55 Porterhouse and I had a salad along with a side of truffle macaroni and cheese. Our servers were Rudy and Magic. Water glasses were always full and as usual wine was ordered. Steakhouse 55 has a joyful little lounge full to the brim with regulars overflowing with character. Upon dinner service, all china clinks on the counter at the same time. Service at Disney is like the fine dining restaurant where you are treasured, remembered and given no secret/secrets. Can't finish the gourmet cuisine? We brought some home for family in 3 paper boxes. Environmentally conscious and exceptional. See you soon Magic and Rudy.
This is where you can appreciate the Magic of Disney without ever actually going in to the park. If you know the movies, the songs, and the shows...they have something there for you. I absolutely love that there are artists in house and some of their derivative works are eye-catching. Disney themed trinkets will keep you busy choosing which go home with you. Plenty to eat for every taste. Especially for a sweet tooth! At the time of this review, restaurants with table service and the movie theatre offer two extra hours of parking validation. Have fun!
It really is the Most Magical place on earth. This was our 2nd annual trip and we are already planning for next year. The Grand Californian hotel and spa was awesome and very short walk to the parks. Disneyland and California Adventure were both wonderful. All the cast and crew members we came in contact with were friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make our vacation perfect.
It's a fun place to spend a few hours. Unfortunately the parking cost is through the roof. I think it is $12 and hour after your first 2 hours. We only had time to grad a quick lunch at the Earl of Sandwich and look through the World of DIsney. I would have liked to spend more time and look through the shops. I feel like they are trying to rush you out of there.
I love Downtown Disney, but their parking is ridiculous!! It's packed, far away & when we went to dinner & a movie (and got and got Validation) & walked around and looked at the shops we walked back to our car and had to pay $30.00!! Even with parking validation!! That is ubsurd! We spent so much money & still got charged way to much for far away parking!!!!
