  • The drive is a bit long and winding but interesting to see the damage done to the forest. After all of these years it is still evident that the mountain had blown. When you get to the top of the road,...  more »
  • Spectacularly beautiful! A great location to bring the family not much for facilities but the view is undescribable!  more »
  • Windy Ridge Viewpoint is stunning! The drive to the viewpoint is gorgeous as well. I was surprised to see the log mat still in Spirit Lake. We took the sand ladder trail (368 steps) for great views of...  more »
  • I remember going to spirit lake in 1977 when I was 14 . It was the clearest lake I ever saw . My great uncle kept a vacation trailer there . I remember meeting some old guy that lived at the lake year round and he had same name as a President , Harry Truman , thought that was kinda cool . Then when I had been in marines 3 months and just left oregon from leave from basic , called home and my mother told me mountain blew and knew it was st Helens . Then read newspaper story about how Harry Truman refused to evacuate and was presumed dead from eruption . Kinda sad but interesting that I met him . My uncle moved his trailer before impending eruption . Our town of Newberg Oregon was covered on ash as was most of northwest Oregon , wind was blowing south , Seattle and most of Washington were spared ash fall
  • Incredibly awe inspiring to see the decimation left behind after Mount Saint Helens blew it's top. The Windy Ridge Viewpoint is probably the best place to see the crater left behind, if you're lucky there might even be a bit of steam coming out of the Caldera. Don't miss the old miners car that burnt up the turnout is just before Windy Ridge.
  • Nice rangers! One gave an interesting talk about the history of the volcano, the surrounding areas, and Spirit Lake below.
  • Ever seen 4 volcanos at once? This is a dang good spot for that
  • Beautiful views, and a great drive to get here.
