  • I am Australian and I was disappointed to see one lone red male kangaroo in an enclosure at Amarillo Zoo. Kangaroos are social animals and move in packs called mobs. To see this one solitary kangaroo ...  more »
  • It's a small town zoo, yes - but it's really pretty good especially considering the price of admission. This is an extremely affordable option for the whole family, it's a great day at the zoo!  more »
  • We were expecting a quick visit due to the size of Amarillo, but we spent 90 minutes wandering and seeing each exhibit, looking for the animals to come out. The zoo has all the typical exhibits and a ...  more »

  • Amarillo doesn't have a very large zoo. They do however focus on local species. They also have 3 lions, two bengal tigers and a black bear. It's a quick walk and educational. I think it would be really great if they would find a use for the original entrance other than storage. It is a truly unique piece of architecture. They have a very nice reptile and amphibian exhibit.
  • Monday is free day. This is very great way to shake up the summer. My girls got to hang out with a bunch of kids their age. The animals are awesome. The only bummer is the interactive part is closed.
  • I had been here before and enjoyed the setting. My wife and I recently took our 2 year old to this zoo, and it was a lot of fun. There is not too much to see, like the zoos in Houston or Dallas, and you are able to get really close to the animals. For the overall experience, and for a morning or an afternoon visit, this zoo is amazing. I would recommend for kids or for adults. The nearby playgrounds and Wonderland make for a great family day trip.
  • Lots of staff constantly complaining about their job and benefits, animals not well cared for. Several animals with damaged hoofs and needing baths as some had fur issues. Many enclosures were too small for the animals. Animals water was severely dirty in many enclosures. Many monitors where the reptiles were are broken. It my need donations for many improvements. In horse enclosure no one fixed their little hut so the roof part is still on the ground. This zoo needs a lot more caring personnel or I fear it will close down. The donkey had nibble wonds from no bath and it's wond constantly attacked by flies. These animals some need medical care (birds, horses, donkey, longhorn, & bison are some of the very noticeable ones.)
  • 3 stars because we caught it in a free monday. Would have been sad had I paid. Not too bad for a little zoo. Many empty animal spots and no concession stand.
