Virginia International Raceway, Alton
(4.6/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Virginia International Raceway is a road course located in the community of Alton, near Danville, Virginia. It is less than a half-mile from the North Carolina/Virginia border just outside Milton, North Carolina on the banks of the Dan River. VIR hosts amateur and professional automobile and motorcycle events, driving schools, club days, and private test rentals.Track descriptionVIR offers six track configurations, of which 2 can be run simultaneously. The "Full Course" is 3.27 miles in length while the "Patriot Course" stretches for 1.1 miles entirely inside the Full Course. The "North Course" is 2.25 miles long and the "South Course" covers a distance of 1.65 miles. Both consist of a portion of the "Full Course" and short connecting sections that connect to portions of the "Patriot Course" to produce the two courses that can run simultaneously. There is a second pit complex that is used only when running the "South Course". The longest configuration, "Grand East Course", is 4.2 miles long, and combines most of the "Full Course" and most of the "Patriot Course" by means of two of the short sections of connecting track used to make the "South Course" and "North Course". There is also another, seldom run, long configuration called the "Grand West Course" that uses the other two short connecting sections between the "Full Course" and the "Patriot Course." Since the Patriot course is contained completely inside the Full course, both can be run simultaneously.

  • Nice and smooth track and the grounds are kept immaculate. Always a great time! Awesome vendors are set up where you can buy food/drinks or items related to the current event(s) that are happening. We are going back in November for a Mustang event, this makes our 3rd trip in a year and a halfs time:). Well worth it!
  • Awesome road course! Great place to watch a race, or to take in some laps in your own car! Great facility! Very well maintained!
  • Second time I've done the Grand Course and it is fantastic! This track is truly amazing and very well maintained. Their lodging is very nice and fun to be able to stand on the balcony and watch people on the track. Their small little snack shack is quiet decent for what it is. Very well maintained course that is truly beautiful!
  • I love this place! South Course on a motorcycle is out of this world. I only wish there were many more dates available for it. Seems like the North course is much more prevalent, but the front "straight" bothers me. Maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to do the Grand course and Full course. Speaking of which why MotoGP, World Superbike, come here and run one of the two bigger courses baffles me, this place is immaculately kept. On the same point, MotoAmerica should run one of the larger courses too, instead of North. C'mon Wayne Rainey and Krave group, don't let that track in Wisconsin be the only long circuit the competitors ride.
  • Everyone of their employees are extremely polite, their bathrooms are clean. Anytime I had a question they always have an answer. 👍👍👍 If I could I would totally give them 10 stars, just an all-around amazing place. I do suggest renting a golf cart because this place is huge and there is so much to see.( call ahead )
