Tourist Spot Auto Race Track
Virginia International Raceway is a road course located in the community of Alton, near Danville, Virginia. It is less than a half-mile from the North Carolina/Virginia border just outside Milton, North Carolina on the banks of the Dan River. VIR hosts amateur and professional automobile and motorcycle events, driving schools, club days, and private test rentals.Track descriptionVIR offers six track configurations, of which 2 can be run simultaneously. The "Full Course" is 3.27 miles in length while the "Patriot Course" stretches for 1.1 miles entirely inside the Full Course. The "North Course" is 2.25 miles long and the "South Course" covers a distance of 1.65 miles. Both consist of a portion of the "Full Course" and short connecting sections that connect to portions of the "Patriot Course" to produce the two courses that can run simultaneously. There is a second pit complex that is used only when running the "South Course". The longest configuration, "Grand East Course", is 4.2 miles long, and combines most of the "Full Course" and most of the "Patriot Course" by means of two of the short sections of connecting track used to make the "South Course" and "North Course". There is also another, seldom run, long configuration called the "Grand West Course" that uses the other two short connecting sections between the "Full Course" and the "Patriot Course." Since the Patriot course is contained completely inside the Full course, both can be run simultaneously.

  • 3.27 miles of pure racing bliss! For the racer, this is a complex, undulating circuit with fast and slow corners to please all tastes. Also, the track is very family friendly. It even has decent restrooms and food in the paddock, and showers for use if you're camping. We love to bring our camper here for the vintage racing weekends and let the kids romp while they watch daddy and grandpa on the track.
  • Rent a villa on the track. It is a really good time! If there is a specific car you want see, make sure you go down to the paddock on Saturday. The car you want to see might be gone on Sunday!
  • This place is heaven on earth. We look forward all year to going back here. It is gorgeous and the camping is so much fun. Can't wait to be back.
  • We always have a great time. Very clean easy to get around. Quite a bit nicer than we started coming in the sixties
  • Stayed with some buddies for the weekend to take in the races. The on-site restaurant is excellent, and you couldn't beat the view of the race track from our villa. Everything was very well kept, and the villa was well appointed. Highly recommend!
