  • I love hiking this trail. You get a great workout and at the top of Echo mountain, you get a history lesson on the great hostel that was once there! I wish it was still there, it would've been a great...  more »
  • A hidden jewel of a trail with a (+4000') elevation gain in 6.8 miles. Walkable and bikeable. You must come prepared for sun, shade, rain or snow. Bring water, can be done as a long day hike or an ove...  more »

  • I have few regrets in life, but one is not finding out about this location and the trail to it in my youth (I'm 64). It's a vigorous hike up the mountain and so satisfying in so many places. I bring a decent camera with a longish telephoto lens and always come back with a shot or two worth keeping. Leave early enough in the morning and make this just one stop on your way to other magnificent spots — through Castle Canyon to Inspiration Point, for one. Come with the right clothing and footwear, especially if taking on the Castle Canyon trail. And absolutely be sure to carry plenty of water and at least a little nourishment.
  • This is a moderate hike. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes, wear sunscreen and bring water. I've done this hike twice before. My first time hiking this trail was on 4th of July with a group of friends. We started at around 4/5 with food and drinks in our backpacks to see the surrounding cities fireworks. It was great, but it was a bit scary walking back down at around 10pm. Luckily there's a good amount of people.
  • Very cool historic area of a railway that used to exist on this mountain. There are good views from the top, along with a 2.5 mile hike to get down to the bottom. Inspiration Point is another 2 miles from here and a hike well worth it.
  • Nice Picnic Area after a short 2.5 miles hike. Good overlook for Pasadena and JPL.
  • It can be a pretty hot hike in the summer. Good in the morning. It usually takes me about an hour and a half to get to the top (I'm in decent shape). You can see Catalina on a clear day. Not too steep. The trail is very nice.
